1936 Mills Tycoon Pinball Machine - Very Rare. This pinball machine was made in 1936 by the Mills Novelty Co of Chicago, Illanois, USA. The 1st iteration of these didn't have the backboard which this one has. Its overall look is Art Deco. The playfield is wooden with a beautiful pattina.

It has had woodworm at some point in its past as there are some tiny pinhead holes, however this was treated long before I acquired it. I've owned this machine for at least 15 years, and when I first got it I retreated it just to be on the safe side and there have been no sign of it recurring.

It's a compact machine, much smaller and lighter than later era pinballs and would fit easily into most modern homes. With its stylish Art Deco looks it would certainly be a great conversation piece. Although this machine was manufactured in the US my guess is that it was exported to France as the numbers on the machine are in French, and it takes old French franc coins, but pound coins work just as well.

The number guard does comes off and could be replaced with English numbers. A coin is inserted into one of the coin slots at the front of the machine, the French numbers are the odds which light up and it works like a bagatelle. On the top of the playfield there are gates. Each gate has a switch. It doesn't have any keys, but this isn't a problem as access can be gained from above when the playfield is raised. I've owned it for around 15 years and it used to work but when I tried it recently it wouldn't fire up. As you'll see from the photo of the inside the wiring is all intact and it is a very simple machine. I'd guess it's the transformer and could be fixed by an enthusiast. The paintwork, as you'd expect in an item of this age, is worn and has some scuffs, but overall it is in nice condion considering its vintage, and definitely has the look of its era.
