1958 Gottlieb Woodrail Pinball Machine Sunshine Superb Condition Rare

As ever with pinballs of any era, condition is EVERYTHING. It is really hard to find really nice examples of old electro-mechanical games as they were so heavily played. And if they were stored in damp environments, rust quickly sets in. For woodrails, original cabinet artwork is desirable.

This example has a really nice original cabinet. Amazing for a 1958 game. There are a few touch ups here and there but nothing major as can be seen in photos.

All the metal work on the door is nice and bright. The legs are original and correct. Between 1956 - 1959 Gottlieb games had metal legs with no ridge in them. These legs are extremely difficult to find anywhere. Backglass is a Shay silk screened glass reproduction that is like new. The playfield is the most important part of a game. The playfield on this game is a beauty.

100% original and in amazing condition. See photo when pop bumpers were re-built - hardly any wear at all.

And the playfield art is stunning. The pop bumper caps are all originals and have the marbled appearance. The score card and spares are original.

Even the original game counter works perfectly. The coin mech is present and works perfectly. Accepts 5C pieces - nickels. The game plays perfectly, exactly as it should.

There are videos on youtube that highlight gameplay - just search Gottlieb Pinball Sunshine. This game is from another era and if looked after will still play great in another 50 years time. It is advisable to have some basic understanding of how these games work as from time to time they will need adjustment.

That said, when a game is in this condition and working 100%, it is only likely to need switch adjustments and bulb replacements. Owning a lovely condition woodrail is a gateway to another era.

An antique that is fun to play: There arent many woodrails in the UK because firstly there arent that many left in existence and also games started being imported heavily into the UK from around 1962 onwards which post dates the woodrail era. It will outlast all the latest games with their node boards and PC equipment! As for the game it has a fair bit of depth and no way will a player lose interest due to it being too easy! FAIR, GOOD, EXCELLENT, SUPER and GENIUS.

I have yet to become a GENIUS though. There are different ways to win specials. Collect all the red number and win. Collect all the white numbers and win. And then, try and get the wizard mode, not that they were called that back in 1958!

Collect all 12 numbers and light up the alternating all rollover special. Now it becomes possible to win specials on every white or every red rollover! Fantastic feature but super hard to get to.

Includes original paperwork - schematics and spare instruction cards. The game is in fantastic condition and works flawlessly now but being electro-mechanical, it will no doubt need small adjustments now and then. Alternatively it can be broken down/wrapped and picked up by a courier I have used many times. The game is nearly 60 years old so it isnt perfect but is probably the nicest example in Europe of this particular title.
